On my project I chose for my chosen work sample, which project #3 I used my sources as evidence pretty well. For this project we had to use two of our classmates’ writing and put them into conversation with one of the main sources we used throughout the semester. I chose to work with and put Emily Scheff and Lilyan Blood’s writing into conversation with Nicholas Carr and his writing “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”. The ways I used those sources as evidence to support my claim, which was that the internet is a distraction to us being able to learn, but we cause the disactions and allow them to happen. For example in my second body paragraph I connected both Scheff and Blood together when I used Scheff’s quote which said “On the other hand, notifications, texts, social media, entertainment, games, and communication on our devices can cause disturbances and setbacks in our learning. The negatives don’t necessarily outweigh the positives of technology. I think that it is all about how an individual manages their use and time on their various devices.” (Scheff). To connect Scheffs thoughts to Blood I used Blood saying “Technology has affected the way I write because they didn’t really teach us how to write in cursive in elementary school so I sometimes can’t even understand the cards I get from my grandma and it’s all because they said everything will just be typed.” (Blood). To put them together I went into the explanation of how Scheff was talking about individuals being able to manage their time on the internet devices, and how when people do not know how to do that it connects to Bloods thoughts. When people cannot manage their own time and create discations for them they will be faced with challenges like Blood explained how she never really learned how to write cursive. Overall I felt I was able to do a great job on connecting my sources and improved from my work earlier in the semester.
